The Jamabandi system is a crucial land record management process in Tamil Nadu. It provides a systematic, legal record of land ownership, ensuring transparency and accuracy.

Through this system, every land parcel is registered, documenting ownership, tenancy, and transactions. This enables individuals, businesses, and government bodies to rely on authentic, updated records for property disputes, tax assessments, and future development.

By using the Jamabandi system, Tamil Nadu is ensuring a more organized, equitable approach to land governance.

Every year, the District Collectors and Revenue Department officials organize Jamabandi camps in different taluks where landowners can submit applications regarding corrections in land records, Patta transfer, subdivision of land, inheritance entries, name corrections, and various revenue-related grievances. During these sessions, government officials carefully verify the submitted documents and make necessary updates to the official land records.

Jamabandi plays a significant role in protecting the legal rights of landowners. Accurate land records reduce property disputes, simplify land transactions, and make it easier for farmers, property owners, and financial institutions to verify ownership details. Updated Patta records are also essential for obtaining agricultural loans, government welfare schemes, compensation claims, and property registration.

Citizens attending Jamabandi camps can apply for several services, including Patta transfer after property purchase, correction of owner names, updating inheritance records after the death of a landowner, subdivision of survey numbers, correction of survey details, and issuance of revenue certificates. Revenue officials examine the applications based on supporting documents and approve eligible requests according to Tamil Nadu land revenue rules.

To participate in the Jamabandi process, applicants generally need documents such as the registered sale deed, existing Patta copy, Aadhaar Card, Encumbrance Certificate, property tax receipt, electricity bill, legal heir certificate (where applicable), and other supporting documents depending on the nature of the application.
